Pension planning: transferring pensions overseas and QROPS - part 4

In part four of our series on pensions, Kay Ingram, director of public policy at LEBC, examines the impact and risks associated with transferring pensions overseas and Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pensions Schemes (QROPs)  

What was established as a means of assisting emigrants and foreign nationals to transfer their UK pension rights to their intended retirement place of residence, has been used as a tax avoidance scheme. The government plans further crackdowns on those seeking to move UK pension assets abroad, unless they have a genuine need to do so. Some of these measures may have retrospective effect.
