Peter Smith has been appointed chairman at the Land Restoration Trust, the national organisation created to sustainably maintain open spaces for community benefit. He succeeds John Bridge who has been in the role since 2004, and will now head up the new board of trustees as the charity becomes private next year. Smith currently holds non-executive chair positions with Savills and Templeton Emerging Markets Investment Trust, and is deputy chairman of The Equitable Life Assurance Society. He also holds non-executive director positions with N M Rothschild & Son and Associated British Foods where he chairs the audit committees. In 1998 he led the global merger of Coopers & Lybrand with Price Waterhouse where he remained as senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers until 2000. Sacha Romanovitch has beaten off competition from six other finalists to win the Jaguar Woman of Achievement Award 2009. The head of people and culture at Grant Thornton qualified as an accountant in 1993, joining the mid-tier firm in 1994, and making partner level in 2001 before becoming managing partner of the London office in 2002. Larking Gowen has promoted Alex Wade to senior manager at its Norwich office. He joined the firm to train in 1991, qualifying as a chartered certified accountant in 1998. His new role will see Wade responsible for a large portfolio of clients, from large businesses dealing in corporate tax issues and auditing, to smaller businesses focusing on personal tax. Georgina Eason and Adrian Dante have been appointed directors in the MacIntyre Hudson corporate recovery team. Both are experienced in pre-insolvency advice to directors and stakeholders via solicitors and accountants across all industries. Brown Shipley, the private bank, has appointed Tim Meikle as intermediary development director. He makes the move from UBS where he held a similar role. He will be responsible for developing distribution channels in London and the south, with lawyers, accountants and independent financial advisers with high net worth private clients.
