Jonathan Riley begins his role as Grant Thornton's new head of tax. Riley, who replaces Francesca Lagerberg - who is now GT international's global head of tax - has been a partner at the firm since 1997.
Mary Jo White has been named as the US Securities and Exchange Council's chair. White will be the first former prosecutor to take on the top role at the SEC in its 80-year history.
The FSA has appointed both Marian Glen and Charles McKenna to non-executive director roles to the board of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Glen was General Counsel at Aegon UK plc from 2009 to 2011 and prior to that was a partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn from 1994 to 2008. McKenna spent 22 years as a corporate partner at Allen and Overy, specialising in corporate transactions, financial services and regulatory bodies.
Former BDO International CEO Jeremy Newman has been announced as non-executive chairman of accountancy network TCS Global. Newman, who was managing partner at BDO UK for seven years, is currently chair of the Audit Commission and a non-executive board member of the Crown Prosecution Service.
