Tomas Freyman has been appointed as a partner in Grant Thornton’s valuations services group. He joins from the investment bank Lincoln International, where he served as a managing director, having previously held senior roles in UK professional services firms. He has particular expertise in the energy, infrastructure and technology sectors having worked on high profile valuations, both in the UK and internationally, for financial reporting, accounting, tax and litigation purposes.

Paul Webster and Mike Joy will be retiring as partners from Mercer & Hole at the end of September but will remain as consultants. Webster joined the firm in 1971 and has been a partner in the firm since 1981, making him one of the longest serving partners in the firm’s history. Joy trained in London and spent two years in industry before joining the firm in 1985, becoming a partner in 1986.

Blick Rothenberg has appointed Fiona Fernie as a partner in its tax investigations and dispute resolution team. She joins the firm from Pinsent Masons where she headed up their tax investigations team. She is a chartered accountant and trusts and estates practitioner with over 30 years’ experience working on resolving disputes and queries raised by HMRC.

MHA MacIntyre Hudson has appointed Ian Jackson as a commercial broking director in its financial solutions team. Jackson will be assisting SME businesses with their current and future funding requirements from the firm’s Reading office. With more than 25 years’ banking experience, both as a relationship manager and working capital specialist, his most recent experience has been in supporting clients with their working capital needs.

Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Liz Pierson as a partner in its tax strategy & benefits practice group in London. She joins from Clifford Chance where she was a director in its Incentives group. Pierson advises on all aspects of executive remuneration, share schemes and incentives issues for both public and private companies in the UK and internationally.

Luke Taylor and Mike Stocks have been promoted to partner at Smailes Goldie Group, increasing the number of partners at the firm from eight to 10. The pair joined the firm in September 2009, before qualifying in 2012 and being promoted to manager in 2014. Last year, they both received promotions to become associates of the firm. Taylor specialises in accounting for academy schools while Stocks specialises in corporate finance transactions.

Jeff Fletcher has joined Creaseys as audit and accounts associate director, after nine years with London and south coast accountants Hartley Fowler. Nathan Vince also joins the firm as a trainee accountant after recently graduating from the University of Kent.

Gateley has appointed Steve Asher as a director to launch a new service offering in Global Mobility led out of its London office, with further appointments to be announced shortly. He has over 25 years’ experience working with large international practices and joins from Mazars where he was head of Global Mobility and expatriate tax services for more than five years.
