This week’s career moves, partner promotions and hires

HaysMac has promoted Sabina Burke to co-head of the creative, media & technology sector. She will be the first tax specialist to co-head a sector at the firm, joining Jon Dawson to lead the largest corporate sector. Burke is an experienced chartered tax adviser supporting fast-growth, scale-up, and entrepreneurial businesses across creative, media, and technology. She joined the business tax team as a director in 2023 from Carter Backer Winter (CBW), and originally trained and qualified at KPMG. Burke specialises in corporate structuring, exit and succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, SEIS/EIS tax reliefs, and international tax planning. Her promotion takes the percentage of female sector heads at HaysMac to 57%.

Evelyn Partners has appointed Julie Moore as a tax partner to help drive growth of the employee solutions offering across the North based in Manchester. She has more than 15 years’ experience specialising in employee solutions compliance, and will lead on the existing pay governance support area, which includes workforce engagement and reward strategies, pay, expenses and benefit structures, incentive planning, international employment matters and global mobility. Moore joins from RSM where she was employment tax director in the northwest.

Duncan & Toplis has appointed Peter Wilson as managing director of its wealth management service, Castlegate Financial Management, taking over from Andy Severn. He brings experience in strategic leadership and financial services, having been director of innovation at Legal & General Investment Management and group MD of Flying Colours Financial Advice. He has also worked at the Treasury and started his career at GlaxoSmithKline. Severn will remain at the firm, continuing to work with his portfolio of clients as a business services director.

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has appointed Greg Ferrari as Executive Director of Performance and Transformation in a move that completes the executive leadership team under CEO Sarah Beale. He will lead the finance, IT, project management, and people teams. Ferrari joins from charity Advance HE, where he was chief operating officer & chief transformation officer. He also spent a decade at education giant Pearson in VP operations and customer service roles. 

The Royal Mint has named Chris Walton as non-executive chair for a three-year term, succeeding Graham Love, who has been in post since 2018. Walton will oversee the Mint as it continues to diversify its portfolio into new business areas. The decline of cash has spurred innovation and a portfolio of new businesses including Precious Metals Recovery and the luxury jewellery range 886, a nod to the Royal Mint’s founding date of 886 AD. Walton is also chair of Aegis Energy and audit chair of East West Railway Company, set to build the Cambridge Oxford link, and has decades of experience in senior financial, corporate governance and board advisory roles, including as CFO of Easyjet.
