This week’s latest people appointments include a partner at Moore Stephens, a group financial director appointment at Smith & Williamson and tax adviser Ray McCann joins Joseph Hage Aaronson as a partner
Moore Stephens has appointed Lee Causer as a partner of the restructuring and insolvency team in their Birmingham office. He joins from AlixPartners, where he was a director and qualified as an accountant from EY. Causer has over 19 years’ experience of working in corporate restructuring in the Midlands, particularly in the leisure, healthcare, sport and real estate and construction sectors.
Smith & Williamson has appointed Grant Hotson as group financial director. He joins the main board of Smith & Williamson and will sit on the firm’s subsidiary boards relating to the tax and business services and the investment management and banking divisions. He takes over from Jeremy Boadle who retires later this year.
Tax adviser, Ray McCann CTA, has joined the law firm Joseph Hage Aaronson LLP as a partner. He was previously a principal and partner at New Quadrant Partners, where he advised on private wealth tax matters and on a range of corporate and personal HMRC issues, especially relating to HMRC investigations and tax planning disputes.
WMT has appointed Paula Jeffs as private client tax partner. Jeffs worked at the firm between 2007-13 and will now rejoin as a partner. She has over 20 years’ experience in providing personal tax advice. Her specialisms lie in trusts, inheritance tax planning, residency, and non UK domiciliaries. She also advises on the specific tax implications that can arise during separation or divorce.
Tax specialist, Craig Harman, has been promoted to partner at Tunbridge Wells accountants, Perrys, at the age of 26. He is one of the firm’s tax specialists dealing with a wide range of clients and advising on all areas of the UK tax system.
Signature Private Finance has appointed Trevor Melly to the role of lending manager. Previously, Melly has been a mortgage underwriter with the Bank of Ireland and an account relationship manager at Mizrahi Tefahot Bank.
Matt Hoy has joined Gibson Hewitt as a manager after leaving Deloitte, where he worked for 15 years. He brings with him expertise in corporate insolvency and restructuring having previously worked on a number of high-profile cases involving companies such as Woolworths, HMV and Wedgwood.
Tony Quinlan, the current chief financial officer of Laird plc has been promoted to chief executive officer following the resignation of David Lockwood. Quinlan has played a key part in the strategic direction of the group and has demonstrated strong leadership. David and Tony are committed to working closely together to bring about the smoothest possible handover.
Carillion plc has promoted Zafar Khan to group finance director, having previously been group financial controller since 2013. He begins his new role in December 2016 and takes over from Richard Adam who has decided to retire.
Dave King has been appointed as pensions technical consultant at Aries Insight. He joins from Mercer where he was a technical adviser for 20 years. King has also been a technical support consultant with the Pensions Trust.
The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China has been appointed as a member to the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board. The appointment became effective on the 11 August.
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has appointed Mohammad Faiz Azmi as chair and Martin Edelmann as vice-chair of the Islamic Finance Consultative Group. Faiz Azmi is currently the executive chairman of PwC Malaysia and has been a member of the Islamic Finance Consultative Group since it was established. Edelmann is a member of the IASB.
