Discussions to set up a monitoring board looking at how accountancy firms are implementing recommendations on fair access to the professions are underway. Neil Sherlock, partner at KPMG and member of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions, said talks needed to be geared towards 'where best we need to evaluate and monitor progress'. The accountancy sector has welcomed recommendations set out by the panel, with firms looking to encourage internships and work experience for ethnic minorities as well as meeting with the Social Mobility Commission. 'It's been a very positive response. People are looking at ways to do more,' Sherlock said. He added that the profession needs to hone these ideas in one place, such as the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies, which encourages best practice. 'It could be something the CCAB could act as the entity for, bringing together professional bodies and monitoring progress,' he said.
