£100m AAB swaps private equity in Goldman Sachs deal

Private equity firm August Equity has sold its stake in AAB accounting group after four years to Goldman Sachs Alternatives as Top 25 Firm focuses on continued M&A activity

Dubbed Project Explorer, the deal will see Goldman Sachs Alternatives acquire AAB from August Equity, subject to regulatory approvals.

Emma Lancaster, chief executive of AAB described the August Equity relationship as ‘transformational’, with the transition to new backers ‘reinforcing the firm’s trajectory of sustained growth’.

Since the initial private equity investment in October 2021, the firm has grown fourfold under August Equity’s partnership from annual fee income of £25.6m for FY21 to the FY24 figure of £98m for year end 31 March 2024 with 27% revenue growth last year alone. It is now 23rd in the Top 75 Firms ranking, up from 33 at the time of the first private equity deal.
