Around now the Investment Association, the body representing UK investment managers, should be issuing a position statement calling for companies to cease quarterly reporting and guidance. Instead it wants them to focus their reporting on longer-term performance and strategic issues.
The move follows the publication of the Investment Association’s productivity action plan for boosting the UK economy through long-term investment and helping to reverse the UK’s productivity problem.
‘In terms of reporting, we say there needs to be more focus on the long term from companies, and particularly long-term reporting from companies,’ says Andrew Ninian, director of corporate governance and engagement at the Investment Association.
