Questionable benefits for mid-tier firms under EU audit rules

Audit rule changes under the EU Audit Regulation Directive (ARD) are forcing audit firms to consider whether the public interest entity audit marketplace is really for them, says Jane Fowler, director of ethics and regulatory compliance, BDO

The government’s consultation on the implementation of the EU’s audit reforms in respect of public interest entity (PIE) audits includes a number of draft clauses for incorporation into the Companies Act 2006.

There remains a lot of complexity in the changes to be made to the Companies Act 2006 and not all clauses have yet been drafted. In addition to these changes, there will be a significant number of other instruments needed to address non-company PIEs.
