The Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office is to adopt a plan set up by the National Fraud Strategic Authority to help with the government's approach to tackling fraud. The scheme, named the National Fraud Strategy concentrates on 'punishing more fraudsters through effective prosecution based on the right powers for dealing with this constantly evolving crime'. David Green QC, director of the RCPO, said: 'We will continue to bring fraudsters to justice and protect the public purse. I welcome the focus of the National Fraud Strategy on effective prosecution based on appropriate powers, and I look forward to working with the NFSA to combat the threat posed by fraud through this strategy' Some of England and Wales' biggest frauds have been successfully prosecuted by the RCPO and they have been able to recover £21.1m of criminal assets for the 'public purse' in 2007/8.
