The Charity Commission recovered almost £150,000 for HMRC in Gift Aid, interest and penalties, after discovering significant financial mismanagement at Saint George Educational Trust, a Catholic religious charity based in Andover in Hampshire, which has been associated with extremist views.

The latest inquiry by the Charity Commission was launched in 2022 and found significant governance failings, financial mismanagement, and unacceptable political activity at the charity, including support of a proscribed terrorist organisation.
