Sage upgrades tax software

Accountancy software giant Sage has now made its packages Sage Taxation 2009 and Sage Instant Tax 'generally available'. Sage Taxation 2009 allows accountants to prepare tax returns and calculations for individuals, partnerships and trusts. The new release supports paper and online filing, both of which are backed up by Sage's validation checks that review a tax return before it is sent off. The upgrade to 'Personal Tax' incorporates new capital gains legislation while capital allowance changes have been included in the 'Business Tax' module. Greg Ford, managing director for Sage accounts division, said the software provider's success rate for 2008 self-assessment returns stands at 99.4%, which is down to 'validation checks that we've built into the software over and above HMRC's own checks'. Sage Instant Tax allows small practices, with up to 100 clients, to complete and file SA100 tax returns and computations on paper or electronically. It has the same features as Sage Taxation, including full tax return functionality through data entry screens, online filing and integration with other Sage accounting products and a full support service.
