Three former Tesco senior executives, including former finance director Carl Rogberg, are to face trial in September next year on charges of fraud and false accounting relating to the £263m accounting misstatement discovered in the retailer’s accounts in 2014
The trial date for the case over the misstatement of accounting involving three former Tesco executives has been confirmed for 4 September 2017 at Southwark Crown Court in R v Carl Rogberg, Christopher Bush and John Scouler.
All three of the former Tesco directors are charged with fraud over accounting misstatements when they were at the supermarket giant Tesco.
The three defendants, former UK finance director Carl Rogberg, UK managing director Christopher Bush and food commercial director John Scouler, are now on unconditional bail until the trial starts next year.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges in an earlier hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in September.
The case was brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) into the actions of senior finance executives at the supermarket giant over disputed supplier agreements which were revealed in the 2014 accounts and involved £263m of accounting writedowns. The alleged activity occurred between February 2014 and September 2014.
The prosecution team argued for bail with conditions, stating that there was a risk the defendants could talk to the SFO about the case, but Judge McCreath rejected this, stating that the case had been running for long enough.
The defence search terms must be in by 18 November and the inital disclosure hearing is set for 28 February. The second stage hearing is set for 2 May followed by case management on 30 May.
