Strike out notice against £214k tax appeal allowed

The court has allowed HMRC’s strike out notice against an appeal for a £214,000 input tax refund which was linked to evasion of VAT

The Upper Tribunal overturned the decision from the First Tier Tribual (FTT) involving Tasca Tankers, over a VAT reclaim.

The tribunal dismissed HMRC’s application for a strike out notice on an appeal over its decision to deny an input tax refund worth £214,386.38 as the transactions were connected with the fraudulent evasion of VAT.

Tasca Tankers was incorporated in September 1994 and was registered for VAT in February 1995 with its main business being the manufacturing and sale of new and second-hand road tankers.
