Stacie Cheadle, technical writer at Croner-i, looks at how employers can support their employees during the fasting month of Ramadan
This year, Ramadan is expected to start on the evening of 17 or 18 February. The fast will end with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which is predicted to take place on Friday 20 March, subject to moon sighting.
Ramadan is a holy month in the Islamic calendar, and it is marked by followers of this faith in various ways, including fasting during daylight hours. The dates for Ramadan fall earlier in February this year when daylight hours are shorter, however fasting duration will still be around 11 hours each day. Some Muslims will completely abstain from all food and drink during the fasting period, whereas others may take a different approach.
