Much like death and taxes, tax investigations are a fact of
life these days. HM Revenue & Customs is under orders to close
the multi-billion pound ‘tax gap’ that the government
believes exists as a result of taxpayers, or ‘customers’
as HMRC prefers to call them, failing to pay the correct amount of
tax or avoiding it altogether through legitimate or illegitimate means.
