Shop Direct liable for corporation tax

In the case of Shop Direct Group v Revenue & Customs ([2014] EWCA Civ 255), the Court of Appeal has dismissed Shop Direct Group’s (the Group) appeal and confirmed its liability for corporation tax on the receipt of a VAT repayment and associated interest.

The VAT repayment related to a number of over-payments of VAT made by various companies within the same VAT group which have since permanently discontinued their trades.
