Rules for auto-enrolment pensions mean that contract staff are also eligible, says Martin Reynard

It is one year since the launch of auto-enrolment in October 2012, the lynchpin of the government's strategy to encourage people to save enough for retirement. With rare exception, anyone (individual or corporate) employing someone else will have pension obligations to their 'employee'. This means that any organisation which hires agency staff, contract workers or operates any other unusual working relationships, could easily break the rules.
