Top fraud hotspots in the UK named

Norforlk has been revealed as the dating fraud capital of England and Wales while Surrey is the hotspot for investment fraud, according to research for Which?

Norfolk is the region where people are most likely to send money to people they believe they are in a relationship with online, with 1.6 reports per 10,000 people, compared to the national average of 1.1.

Dorset was named as the top spot for computer virus, malware and spyware scams while Northamptonshire is most vulnerable when it comes to online shopping and auction fraud.

Dyfed-Powys is most susceptible to computer repair frauds, this is where a fraudster phones individuals pretending there is a fault with their computer and demands a fee for being able to fix it.

This fraud has risen by 47% over the past two years and scammers tend to target the older population.

Regular-payment fraud, where a fraudster persuades individuals to re-route a regular payment by posing as, for example, an energy company, is reported more in areas with higher house prices, such as London and Surrey.

Action Fraud data shows that 264,204 frauds were reported in 2016, up 10.7% on 2015.
