Controversial Republican US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has promised to ‘jump start America’ by cutting corporate taxes and suspending incoming regulations
The property tycoon promised tax free childcare and the end of the estate tax as he laid out his fiscal policy in typically brash style.
‘I want to jump start America and it can be done and it won’t even be that hard,’ he said, offering little detail on how he plans to fund the moves.
His latest proposals include a 15% cap on all business income tax, significantly down on the current headline rate of 35%.
For individuals, he put forward a plan to reduce the number of tax brackets to three from seven, with rates of 12, 25 and 33%. In September last year he had proposed individual tax rates of zero, 10, 20 and 25%.
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton hit out at Trump’s proposals.
‘Donald Trump's plan is just a repackaging of trickle-down economics and it doesn't help our economy or the vast majority of Americans,’ she said on Twitter.
Critics more widely have warned that Trump’s promises of greater spending and tax cuts would see the federal deficit to rise significantly.
