The facts

Tyco, a Spanish security firm, employed workers to install and maintain security equipment in homes and business premises. The workers were responsible for particular geographical areas. Following the closure of the company’s regional offices they had been given the use of a company vehicle in which they would travel every day from their homes to the places where they were to carry out installation or maintenance work. They used the same vehicle to return home at the end of the day.
