Subarna Banerjee has been appointed as the new managing partner at top twenty firm UHY Hacker Young, taking over from Laurence Sacker who has held the role since 2016
Banerjee was formerly the head of the national charity and not-for-profit group at the firm, which was ranked at number 20 in Accountancy’s league table and recorded revenues of £49m last year.
He joined UHY Hacker Young in 2014, having previously worked in senior roles within the UK’s top six accounting firms.
As well as taking on the role of managing partner, Banerjee will continue to work with his clients which include three of the country’s top ten grant giving charities amongst other high-profile charities and not-for-profit bodies.
Banerjee said: ‘It’s a real honour to take on this role. I’ll be building on the great work of Laurence and his predecessor, Ladislav Hornan, in developing UHY Hacker Young’s position as one of the UK’s leading accountancy firms which has a fantastic client base.
‘The firm has developed an outstandingly positive culture that is really friendly, meritocratic and professional. Being a relative newcomer to the firm, that is something I still find refreshing.
‘UHY Hacker Young is always an exciting place to work and we have ambitious plans for the future, but our priority over the next few months must be to deliver all the help we can to ensure clients get through the coronavirus outbreak in the best possible shape.’
The new managing partner said his role will be to work with all the partners to further develop the firm’s audit and advisory client base across a range sectors, where the firm has demonstrable expertise, including the audit of companies listed on both UK and international markets.
In addition, UHY Hacker Young has made recent senior appointments within corporate finance, turnaround and recovery and taxation and these are expected to be key growth areas over the next few years.
Sacker, who will continue to be active in the firm after stepping down from the top role, said: ‘The entire partnership is delighted that Subarna is taking up this role. He has the right blend of skills, ideas and experience to take UHY Hacker Young forward.’
Banerjee has also been appointed to join Sacker as the UK’s second founder director to the board of UHY International, a network with offices in every major financial centre in the world.
