Royal Mail postal services enter taxable domain for first time

With effect 1 April 2012 the range of postal services which are exempt under the rules for the universal post service will reduce.

Royal Mail has set up a page on its web site which details the new exceptions. The page lists all of the services that become taxable in April and provides a further list of all services that are now taxable.

The general postal service, delivered at regulated prices, whether first or second class, remains exempt and seems likely to stay exempt at least for many years.
