Want to be a forensic accountant? What you need to know

Jana Lefranc, principal at HKA, explains the role of accountants and valuation practitioners in disputes handled by international arbitral tribunals, and the key attributes of a forensic accountant

Companies enter daily into transactions and commercial contracts, relying on the terms of the contract to protect their legal rights should a dispute arise between them. These contracts are often concluded between parties residing in different countries and concern assets or transactions across borders.

Should a dispute arise, depending on the wording of the relevant contract, the parties can have their dispute resolved by local courts or an international arbitral tribunal. Many disputes include claims for economic damages, including for lost profits, wasted costs and so on.
