What to do if an employee on holiday gets stranded abroad

Geopolitical instability in the Middle East has had an immediate knock-on effect on flights affecting many thousands of UK holidaymakers, left with no means of getting home any time soon. Inevitably employers are going to have to – if they haven’t already – be in contact with employees about the fact they are not going to be able to return to work as planned.

1. It is the employee’s responsibility to get in touch with the employer

As soon as it becomes apparent to the employee that they are not going to be able to return to work as expected, they have a responsibility to get in touch with their employer to let them know.
