What you need to know: gender pay reporting requirements

The introduction of gender pay reporting rules for companies with more than 250 employees has been delayed and the new regulations are not expected to come into force until next April at the earliest with the first reporting period unlikely to be before April 2018. Kathy Daniels, employment law author, considers the key implementation issues

Despite plans to delay the introduction of new rules relating to gender pay reporting on 1 October under the Equality Act (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2016, the draft plans for the new measure indicate that the first reports are due to be calculated as of 30 April 2017 and reported by 30 April 2018. The delay means that this is likely to slip by 12 months, with a 2019 reporting deadline, pending further government consultation and review.

As of August, the gender pay reporting rules only apply to private and voluntary sector employers in England, Scotland and Wales who employ at least 250 employees.
