26% of law firms shut over accounting breaches

Solicitors’ regulator shut 11 firms for accounting breaches last year taking tougher stance on handling of client funds since £60m collapse of Axiom Ince

Over a quarter of law firms shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) last year were closed for breaching accounting rules.

Between September 2024-25, firms shut down due to breaches of accounting rules made up for 26.2% of all closures, or 11 out of 42 cases. A further 12 firms (28.6%), were closed due to suspected dishonesty, according to data obtained through a freedom of information request by Lubbock Fine.
