AQI 2021: Mazar’s AQP needs to be ‘urgently’ and ‘significantly’ updated

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) found that Mazar’s audit quality plan (AQP) needs to be ‘urgently’ and ‘significantly’ updated as the number of audits requiring improvements by Mazars last year was ‘unacceptable’

In the last three years Mazar’s audit fees rose from £47m in 2018 to £56m in 2019, to £63m in 2020. This year the FRC reviewed seven individual audits which is an increase from five reviewed in 2020. This was in response to the growth in the number of public interest entities (PIE) audits carried out by the firm.

The FRC assessed four (57%) of Mazars individual audits as requiring no more than limited improvements, while one required significant improvement and two required some improvements.
