Government consults on employment status but not tax issues

Tax review will not be part of new government consultation on employment status designed to crack down on fake self employment of gig workers

In the latest government consultation on more changes to employment rights, the focus is on employment status with the aim of ‘placing less emphasis on personal service when determining worker status’, the Department for Business (DBT) stated, with a focus on improving employment rights for gig workers.

The proposals are targeting primarily at gig workers, parcel couriers, delivery drivers and hairdressers who are often hired as self employed but are likely equivalent to salaried, contracted staff, but without any of the employment benefits.
