Bathroom supplier sinks into administration

Matt Ingram and John Whitfield, partners at Duff & Phelps, have been appointed joint administrators of bathroom products manufacturer Silverdale Bathrooms Ltd.

The company is an independently owned, specialist manufacturer of period-style and contemporary bathroom fittings in both fine fireclay and vitreous china. Based in Staffordshire, the Silverdale factory has been producing high quality premium ceramic pieces for almost 30 years, and is one of the few remaining facilities still casting in the UK today.

Matt Ingram, joint administrator and Duff & Phelps partner, said: 'The company was subject to a management buyout in 2011 and sales have failed to increase in-line with the business plan. Consequently, this appears to have resulted in the overhead base of the business consuming working capital to the point that there has been no option but to seek the appointment of administrators.'

Following the administration, 23 of the Silverdale's 68 employees have been made redundant. Ingram said the administrators planned to keep the business open as they assessed its financial position a view to trading as a buyer is sought.
