Only two of the Big Four have made it into the Sunday Times’ 2017 lists of the best companies to work for in the UK, with a number of smaller accounting firms trumping the giants
Mid-tier firm PKF Cooper Parry ranks 32nd on the top 100 list, followed by Anderson Anderson & Brown (AAB) at 35th and Bishop Feming at 42nd. Big Four firms EY and Deloitte ranked 17th and 18th respectively as the 30 best largest companies to work for however, PwC and KPMG do not feature on the list at all.
PKF Cooper Parry is a new edition to the list, previously featuring 91st on the small companies category, while EY has dropped four places from last year and Deloitte went up in ranking by two places.
Steve Varley, Chairman and UK & Ireland managing partner at EY, said: ‘To have been recognised as one of the UK’s ‘Best Big Companies to Work For’ is a real achievement. It is a testament to the steps we have taken to help create a more diverse and inclusive culture.’
This year’s list marks the second consecutive year for AAB, who has gone up 18 rankings from 52nd place.
Graeme Allan, managing partner at AAB said ‘this is an outstanding achievement for our entire firm and we are delighted to have achieved the highest accreditation from Best Companies and be listed on The Sunday Times list for the second consecutive year. These accolades are purely because of our staff and how they feel about life at AAB and so it is humbling to know that we have created a firm where people are genuinely happy, engaged and feel valued.’
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) features on the 100 best not-for-profit organisations to work for list, ranking 64th.
Mark Farrar, chief executive of AAT, commented: ‘This is fantastic recognition of the hard-working and committed staff throughout AAT and the environment in which they work. We place a great deal of emphasis on training and developing our staff, and the results are testament to their feelings that AAT has a strong culture in which employees can thrive.’
