B&M faces profit cut after £7m accounting error

High street discount giant B&M has identified £7m accounting error for freight charges, hitting projected profits and resulting in the imminent departure of CFO

B&M has been forced to amend the half year results issued earlier this month as it has discovered a £7m error in the accounts after under-reporting of overseas freight costs.

This has resulted in a £40m downgrade to year end profit figures for the current financial year FY26 to £470m-£520m from original projections of £510m-£560m, based on group revenues around the £5.6bn.

A statement from B&M said: ‘The group’s financial half-year end results consolidation process has identified, after the announcement of 7 October 2025, approximately £7m of overseas freight costs not correctly recognised in cost of goods sold, following an operating system update earlier this year.’
