Brit sentenced in £44m ‘Singapore Solution’ tax evasion case

British co-founder of Hong Kong based asset management firm used shell bank accounts in Swiss private bank to evade tax for US clients sentenced to time served

Roderic Sage, 73, of Chelthenham, Gloucestershire, and a UK citizen, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the US at a hearing in Manhatton Federal Court in the Southern District of New York.

The charges followed Sage’s extradition from the UK in May 2025 to face fraud charges related to his involvement in a tax evasion fraud run out of Hong Kong through his jointly owned investment firm.

The scheme used a private bank in Switzerland and an asset management firm in Singapore to help US taxpayers avoid US taxes by transferring assets and income cross border. This fraud charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison in the US.
