Mathematician and Celebrity Traitors star Hannah Fry switches banishments for bookkeeping, taking to ICAEW annual conference stage only hours after bombshell episode

Less than 24 hours after being banished from the castle on Celebrity Traitors, Hannah Fry swapped the round table for the ICAEW Annual Conference stage in London, opening proceedings for 800 chartered accountants.

In Thursday night’s episode of Celebrity Traitors, Hannah Fry became the latest contestant to be banished at the round table.

Having started the series as a Faithful before being recruited by fellow Traitors, comedian James Acaster and entertainer Maya Jama, Fry was ultimately caught out by her fellow players and banished.

Welcoming her on stage at the 2026 ICAEW conference at the O2, this year’s host, Channel 4 News anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy stated: ‘She is most well known right now for being a woman you cannot trust as far as you can throw. So please welcome to the stage, the Traitor, Hannah Fry.’

Welcomed with a round of applause, Fry said: ‘I think I actually proved I was very, very bad at lying… just to reassure you I am a proper person.’

The mathematician put the audience’s faith in their own judgment to the test with a game designed to see whether accountants could spot AI-generated answers.

Fry presented pairs of words and asked ICAEW delegates to identify which had been generated by AI and which had come from accountants in the room, a version of what she described as the ‘Turing test’.

Given the choice between ‘lasagne’ and ‘robot’, the audience correctly identified lasagne as the human response.

They repeated the feat when presented with ‘love’ and ‘banana’, correctly selecting love as the accountants’ answer.

But the accountants came unstuck on the final question.

Asked to choose between ‘fear’ and ‘rounding error’, delegates confidently went for rounding error, only to discover, to their surprise, that it had in fact been generated by AI.

Returning to the stage to close the session, Krishnan Guru-Murthy asked: ‘Why do you think they [the cast of The Traitors] found you out?’

Fry replied, laughing: ‘Put it this way I don’t think I’ve got a career in acting.’

Fry also offered delegates an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her time on Celebrity Traitors, revealing that the programme compresses events more than viewers might realise.

She said: ‘It looks on the TV that they tell me I’m the Traitor the night before, like I have 20 hours of sleep… But I found out I was a Traitor 10 minutes before breakfast. It was like “take the traitor’s cloak off, put this jumper on and off you go”, I think I was duped from that point on.’
