Ex-Olympus executives to pay £410m damages over accounting scandal

Six former directors at Japanese camera maker Olympus have been ordered to pay the company ¥58.8bn (£410m) in damages over a $1.1bn (£850m) accounting fraud originally uncovered by a British whistleblower.

The Tokyo District Court ruled that ex-company president Tsuyoshi Kikukawa and five others, who were sacked when the fraud was discovered, were liable for the fines. One of the six has died, but the Court said that his three heirs may be asked to pay.
