Accountant jailed for £123k VAT fraud

Daniel Hashem, 32, was an accountant from Milton Keynes who was jailed for two years by St Albans Crown Court after he fraudulently claimed £123,296 worth of VAT. Hashem pleaded guilty to eight charges of being ‘knowingly concerned’ in fraudulent evasion after he created multiple fake limited companies to claim the VAT repayments.

The companies which Hashem set up never traded and the claims were submitted through Hashem as he believed that as an accountant the claims had a ‘veneer of legitimacy’.
