Jacks Famous Supplies (Camping) Limited is to close following a brief administration period as high street squeeze forces the company out of business.

Administrators from Larking Gowen were appointed on 21 January 2013 and trade continued for the last two weeks in the hope that a purchaser for the business would be found.

The hardware, work clothing and camping store had traded in Colchester since 1946 but has recently been hit by increased competition and the costs of operating from a high street base.

Larking Gowen administrator Adam Clarke said: 'Our initial plan was to trade the business to see if a purchaser could be found. Sadly and despite much interest in the store, no such purchaser came forward and, therefore, in conjunction with the director, David Williams, a decision was made to cease trading and close the store on 2 February 2013. Regrettably this means the loss of eight jobs.'
