In its response to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee’s Net Zero Governance inquiry, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) stated that the government must ‘bring together the UK’s regions and nations in a new implementation board.

The chartered accountancy firm states that the UK’s net zero ambitions are ‘currently limited’ because there is ‘no overall governance structure in place’. 

The firm says that this has led to a lack of coordination between central government, the devolved administrations, local authorities, and businesses, and a board that incorporates all these sectors would help achieve net zero.
