The Charity Commission accounts reported a revenue underspend of £400,000 which is up from £300,000 in 2019-2020. This underspend amounts to 1.3% of the Commission’s £29.2m annual budget of 2020-2021.

The Commission’s funding comes largely through the Treasury with supplements provided by other government departments to cover the cost of ongoing projects delivered on their behalf, the Treasury reduced The Charity Commission’s budget by £1m from £29.3m in 2019-2020 to £29.2m in 2020-2021.

The effect of the pandemic and the Treasury’s increased expenditure has not massively affected the funds provided to the Commission.

The annual report also noted that the total charity income, for charities that the Commission regulates totalled £84.1bn, which is a £3bn increase since last year’s report. Charity expenditure also rose to £82.3bn from £78.7bn in the last 12 months.

The
