CIMA has opened talks with both CIPFA and ICAS about offering their members routes to CIMA membership and the chartered global management accountant (CGMA) designation, with further details to be made available later in the year
The move comes a month after CIMA and AICPA members voted to establish a new accounting association, which will launch next year.
CIMA said it and CIPFA are considering how they can co-operate to strengthen public sector financial management. CIMA is also in discussions with the Scottish institute about routes for senior members of ICAS as well as other ways in which they can work together for the benefit of their members and the profession.
Charles Tilley, chief executive at CIMA, said the aim was to work with both professional bodies to build upon what he described as ‘an already world-renowned level of training’ by bringing a business focus.
Rob Whiteman, chief executive at CIPFA, said: ‘Across the public sector globally, CIMA is respected for its expertise and leadership in the field of management accounting. We intend to build a bridge that enables our members to access that expertise and will help strengthen their own professional practice and the financial management of the organisations they support.’
Anton Colella, chief executive at ICAS, said: ‘We are excited to be in discussions with CIMA about the potential for opening up membership and CGMA designation opportunities to our members, and to be exploring further reciprocal arrangements. Both ICAS and CIMA recognise the benefits of equipping our members with the skills and qualifications needed for an ever-changing global business environment and we look forward to working closely with CIMA.’
