Collapsed Charitygiving portal calls for fundraiser input

The initial investigation into the collapsed donations website, www.charitygiving.co.uk, is nearing completion but there are still discrepancies over missing donations and issues around the veracity of the accounts.

Leading the inspection of the Dove Trust's donation records is interim manager, Pesh Framjee of accountancy firm Crowe Clark Whitehill, who was appointed to review the accounts.

Framjee will not close the review until gets assurance that the Dove Trust's records can be relied on to provide the correct information. Once this guarantee has been issued, he will be able to authorise an interim distribution of funds.

There is an estimated £250,000 of missing donations, although the precise figures cannot be verified without the support of both donors and online fundraisers.

All fundraisers who have used the website should check the balance of their page against what they believe has been donated. If the balance is incorrect, details of the fundraising web page and financial discrepancies, should be emailed to [email protected] by Monday 12 August.

Charities are being contacted separately to discuss their accounts and the amounts they have received from Charity Giving. Charities and good causes are being provided with statements of their balances and asked to notify any discrepancies.

Donors also have a role to play in the review. Framjee said: 'We need to manage the process of who we are working directly with. We are expecting any discrepancies to be notified to us by the fundraisers and page creators, and organisations that are expecting funds. If you believe that your donation has not been correctly recorded please contact the page creator.'

The interim team is also looking for an alternative provider to host the Charity Giving website, but at this stage it cannot quantify how much money will be forwarded to charities and good causes.

Framjee added: 'I would like to sincerely thank all of the charities and fundraisers for their patience during what is undoubtedly an anxious time for many. Our review is progressing, and the assistance of fundraisers and charities to help us test the validity of the Dove Trust's donation records is enormously appreciated.'
