Comment: Why diversity is critical

A lack of workforce diversity across the profession has created barriers to progress, says Fiona Hotston Moore of Crowe Clark Whitehill

Looking back over my last 25 years in the accountancy profession, I am disappointed at the lack of change in terms of diversity both in the profession and in the corporate world.

I have worked in a number of accountancy firms including one Big Four, two top 10 firms and two smaller practices. From my experience leading MRI Moores Rowland I am convinced of the business case both for creating a diverse firm and creating a better working environment.

Workforce diversity has to be viewed as a competitive advantage and business opportunity. When the senior management of corporates, the public sector and professions recognise the business case for diversity, quotas are irrelevant.
