This figure is the total cost estimate for measures for which government departments are responsible for, and the statistics provided in the report come from the NAO Covid-19 Cost Tracker. 

The estimated lifetime cost of the biggest programmes introduced in the last year were the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme at £62bn, NHS Test and Trace at £38bn, and self-employment income support scheme (SEISS) at £27bn.

Other big spender’s over the last 12 months have been universal credit which cost £10bn, business grant funding at £18bn, business rates reliefs of £21bn and spending on the vaccine reached £10bn. There was an additional £65bn estimated to be spent on support for other public services and emergency responses.
