The Upper Tribunal has granted HMRC’s application to issue Sukhdev Mattu with a tax-related penalty of £350,000 for continued failure to comply with an information notice from the tax authority on 28 August 2019.

HMRC had been in correspondence with Mattu through his accountants, regarding an offshore trust called the Taj Trust. Following the unsuccessful attempts to get the information about the Taj Trust, HMRC applied to the First Tier Tribunal (FTT) to approve giving Mattu an information notice which was issued in August 2019.
