Courts will decide Pompey's future, say PKF

A pre-Christmas court hearing will leave beleaguered club Pompey with only one of two fates; sold as a going concern or liquidation, PKF, the club's administrator has confirmed.

A court hearing has been set for 13 and 14 December to determine the value of Portsmouth's home ground, Fratton Park with the club's current owners Portpin disputing the valuation of £2.75m by the Pompey Supporters Trust (PST).

Portpin claims the land that the 21,100 capacity stadium lies on is closer to £11m but if so would see the club being liquidated, Trevor Birch, PKF partner and joint administrator has warned.

Birch said: 'This hearing is critical in deciding the future of Portsmouth Football Club: If the court agrees with the sale value of Fratton Park, we can sell the club as a going concern to the PST; if we lose, liquidation will become the most likely option.

'This court case is the culmination of months of hard work behind the scenes in trying to resolve the complex issues which this administration has posed. We will continue to work closely with the PST to finalise our case.'

Another British club facing an uncertain future, Hearts of Midlothian FC has announced that its supporters have helped raise £600,000 in a share sale towards paying off its outstanding tax bill, due by 3 December.
