Historic 153 year old rugby club, Halifax Panthers taken to court by HMRC is now being liquidated over outstanding tax debts. The club was bought by a consortium of local businessmen in October 2022, who took over Halifax RLFC Ltd and set up PK 22 Limited to run the business.

Halifax Panthers confirmed the club’s collapse in a statement: ‘Following a High Court hearing, Halifax Panthers has been placed into compulsory liquidation.’

The club fell into financial trouble in early 2024 but managed to stave off a winding up order from HMRC after settling an £80,000 tax bill after being given advanced payments by the Rugby Football League (RFL) and donations from supporters.

In 2025, a further HMRC winding up petition was issued over unpaid debts; this time the club could not avert liquidation and a winding up order was made on 9 February 2026, subsequently, Halifax Panthers had their RFL membership revoked meaning they can no longer play.
