Doncaster Sheffield Airport to close

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is to close later this year as owners say it is not possible to make the business profitable

Owners of the airport, Peel Group, said that the outcome of a strategic review had produced no tangible proposals regarding the future ownership of the airport and that a break-even business plan could not guarantee the future of the site.

Peel said the high costs of running Doncaster Sheffield, which was hit by the pandemic and the loss of flights from Flybe and Wizz Air, meant the airport would start closing down its operations from 31 October.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport had been receiving public funds for years, including through the pandemic, but had rejected an offer to continue the support.
