‘Misleading’ accounts contained fake audit report filed by director

Former director of Spitalfields market wholesaler falsified full audit report to give impression leading UK firm was the company auditor

A joint investigation by the Insolvency Service and Companies House into seven apparently unrelated companies that were in fact linked has identified accounts that ‘contain false or misleading auditor information’.

MHA Moore & Smalley, part of listed Top 75 Firm MHA plc, was falsely named in the annual report and financial statement for the FY24 accounts for Kevin Steven Fryer Ltd, a collapsed New Spitalfields wholesaler, despite the audit firm never having ‘acted for or on behalf of’ the company. It is not clear when the firm discovered their name was first used.

Filings for six of the seven companies have been removed from the Companies House register, although accounts for Kevin Steven Fryer Ltd remain publicly available and include an audit report which appears to have been signed off by a Top 75 Firm.
