It is fair to say 2016 was the year of the improbable. According to Ladbrokes, a £1 bet on Leicester City winning the Premier League, the UK voting to leave the EU and Donald Trump to become US president would have returned over £4.5m.

While Leicester do not look in any danger of winning the Premier League this season, the ramifications of the political decisions made last year will loom large in 2017, with both Brexit and the Trump presidency starting to take shape.
